Indigenous Papermaking Grant
Grant application is due by July 31, 2023 at 5 PM EST.
North American Hand Papermakers is delighted to announce a new grant opportunity for papermakers, paper artists, and paper researchers who are Native American. As part of our commitment to expanding the range of creators and increasing the opportunities within the field of papermaking, NAHP invites project proposals from individuals native to North America, including First Nations people in Canada, Native Americans of the United States, and the Indigenous Peoples of Mexico. A grant of up to $1,000 is available to fund projects within a broad range of papermaking activities: making a new body of artwork consisting primarily of handmade paper, conducting handmade paper-related research, organizing community papermaking outreach events, or engaging in other papermaking-adjacent endeavors. The proposed activities should be completed within 12 months after receipt of the award. Recipients are asked to share the results with NAHP members by either giving a presentation at our annual conference, virtually, or writing a feature article for the Bull & Branch. Presentation details and additional honorarium payment will be finalized upon acceptance of the grant. The 2024 winner will be announced at the 2023 NAHP "Paper Tides" Conference in Providence, RI. (Attendance at the conference is not required.)
There is no submission fee.
