Lynn Sures
Circeo I

Media:  Colored pencil drawing on artist-made sisal paper

Artist Statement:
This paper that I made of pigmented raw Sisal fiber, along with the colored pencil marks themselves, reference ochre—used by Neanderthals as a red-to-yellow pigment—and also this individual’s own violent death in an ancient hyena den south of what is now Rome, Italy.
