Nina Meledandri
bones
Media: handmade abaca & cotton papers, razor clam shells, metallic thread
Artist Statement:
“bones” is the result of a trip to the beach, early in summer, where I encountered a razor clamshell tide. It had been a while since the ocean had brought up an abundance of shells and I gathered up as many as I could. Embedding them in abaca, I accentuated their preciousness (to me) by circumscribing them in silver. After framing them in pink I was struck by their corporal quality.
