Media: handmade paper and mesquite wood

Statement: Using handmade paper as my primary medium, I weave organic wooden structures to create gently lit lamps. I chose mesquite wood with its reddish sun-baked sandstone color to pair with handmade flax paper with a hint of Texas persimmon dye and rose petal inclusions.

Statement: Using handmade paper as my primary medium, I weave organic wooden structures to create gently lit lamps. I chose olive wood with its rich contrasting wavy grain to pair with coconut twigs and handmade unbleached flax paper.

Georgie Cunningham came to papermaking with a background in broadcast and graphic design. Her interest in handmade paper and native plants led to her website blog "Hand Papermaking with Native Texas Grasses."

A papermaker for more than 20 years, Cunningham’s work has shown in galleries across the country.

She studied papermaking at the Southwest School of Art in San Antonio, Texas.

Georgie Cunningham is a member of North American Hand Papermakers and the International Association of Hand Papermakers and Paper Artists.
