Flower Song
Media: Digital composite: handmade recycled paper with pressed flowers layered with a watercolor of a lily
Statement:
At the start of the pandemic, I moved my paper making practice to my home studio, where, with no beater, I began working with a blender and recycled paper. Here, a piece of that paper, strewn with pressed flowers has been digitally layered with a watercolor of a lily.
Oyster
Media: Digital composite: pulp painted abaca construction atop an abaca wrapped form, atop handmade abaca paper embedded with petals, digitally layered with an image of sand patterns
Statement:
The materials used in this composition include: a sheet of abaca embedded with petals, a flat disk of abaca stretched over a twig armature & a small 3D “bowl” made of abaca scraps. When combined with a photograph of sand patterns it became an expression of the sea.
Night & Day
Media: Left: cotton paper embedded with petals and some discarded resin | Right: handmade abaca embedded with pressed flowers, digitally doubled
Statement:
I often present work as diptychs. Here, two sheets of paper, each embedded with petals are digitally paired to create a study of translucence, the beauty of flowers and organic flow.
Biography
I make a lot of images, some of them are paintings, some are photographs, and some, in a strange way, are both.
