Meg Black
Fiber Optics Galaxy I
Media: abaca and resin
Statement:
The Artistic Beauty of Science is the title for the artwork I am submitting to Fluid Practices. Made with over-beaten and pigmented abaca embedded in resin, the title references fiber optic cables streaming across the universe at the speed of light, and a kaleidoscope of colors.
Fiber Optics Galaxy II
Media: abaca and resin
Statement:
This work celebrates the brilliant hues, given off by fiber optics as they speed through the universe, beyond what the eye can see and what our imaginations can ponder. A celebration of light, sound, and color.
Fiber Optics Galaxy III
Media: abaca and resin
Statement:
The very same abaca, used by ancient writers to make parchment onto which they recorded their own discoveries, was carefully applied to the resin as a symbolic way of connecting this ancient writing surface with modern modes of communication.
