Take Care
Media: handmade paper (cotton blowout), silk thread
Statement:
"Take Care" is an age–old phrase. This piece reflects the evolution of writing methods and systems, drawing parallels between tradition, practicality, and the future of communication. In this information age, is the art of cursive handwriting obsolete, or is handwriting becoming obsolete because of technology? Are salutations passé?
Sift
Media: handmade paper (cotton blowouts), pochoir, silk thread
Statement:
How does one find meaning in making during the Covid–19 pandemic? Stitching and deliberate poking into paper was one source of sanity as I 'sifted' through all the information––waiting and watching.
Covidium Roulette
Media: handmade cast paper
Statement:
The installation, "Covidium Roulette", covers the gallery wall with colorful, textured circles of handmade paper. But, as the title suggests, it invites the viewer to consider sobering questions about transmission of the virus and the pandemic.
