Soft Barrier
Media: Flax paper
Statement:
During the pandemic I experimented with a number of paper forms, one being barriers. Barriers to the life we had caused me to look inward for solace. This is a barrier that is welcoming and soft that will give us hope, an illusion of a barrier.
Osage Oranges
Media: Cast paper
Statement:
I had seen the large Osage orange fruit every autumn of my life, never knowing what they were. Last year I finally picked some up, took them home, and figured out what they were. Lovely, tough, pebbly skin hides a seed inside. To commemorate their persistence, I made this cast paper sculpture.
Nest
Media: Flax paper
Statement:
The fragility of bird nests have fascinated me all my life. The magic of flax paper expresses the delicacy and strength of nests, and suggests the possibilities of another generation.
Biography
The wondrous qualities of paper never cease to amaze me. It is soft yet strong, hard yet fluid, malleable but unyielding. I only recently fell in love with paper and paper sculpture. Nothing has captivated me more artistically, with endless opportunities for transformation.
